| James Knowles is
a Senior Associate at Alexiou, Knowles & Co. He has over
40 years experience as an attorney and his practice groups
include Conveyancing, Mortgages, Probate, Labour/Employment,
Corporate, and Divorce and Matrimonial matters. Mr. Knowles
has been with the firm of Alexiou Knowles & Co. since
2002.
He was called to The
Bahamas Bar on the 5th July 1967 after completing his Articles
of Clerkship with the late Sir Stafford L. Sands at the law
firm of Stafford L. Sands & Co. Following this he practiced
law at the firm of Carson, Lawson, Levine whose name and partners
changed from time to time in the ensuing years finally becoming
Carson, Lawson, Klonaris, Sawyer & Knowles which firm
he left in 1985 to form James F. Knowles & Co. where he
practiced until joining the Government in 1997.
Prior to joining Alexiou,
Knowles & Co. Mr. Knowles served as a Minister in the
Government of The Bahamas and was a Member of Parliament for
25 years having been returned in five consecutive elections
between 1977 and 1997 as the Member of Parliament for Long
Island. He was appointed a Government Minister in 1997 and
served until 2002 as the Minister of Transport, Minister of
Public Works and Transport, and Minister of Agriculture and
Fisheries.
Mr. Knowles is a former
member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, and currently a
member of The Bahamas Bar Association and the Long Islanders’
Association.
